Homeodomain (HDM) proteins encoded by homeobox (HBX) genes represent a large family of transcriptional factors that control differentiation and development in certain cell types. DLX4 is a member of Distal-less (DLX) family of HBX genes. Recent studies have demonstrated that abnormal expression of DLX4 is present in several types of human tumors, such as breast cancer, leukemia and colon cancer.
