The tellurite resistance gene operon (ter) is widely spread among bacterial species, particularly pathogenic species. The ter operon has been implicated in tellurite resistance, phage inhibition, colicine resistance, and pathogenicity. The TerC protein represents one of the key proteins in tellurite resistance and shows no significant homology to any protein of known function.
