BACKGROUND:
Laboratory-based, mechanistic, and prognosis studies suggest that a shift from antitumor immunity towards tumor-immune tolerance plays a major role in carcinogenesis. However, prospective epidemiological studies on the consequences of differing immune tolerance levels prior to clinical manifestation are missing.
METHODS:
