MSH6 belongs to the Mutator S (MutS) family of proteins. It contains the Walker-A/B adenine nucleotide binding motif. MSH6 has an intrinsic ATPase activity. It is involved in DNA damage repair. It functions exclusively when bound to hMSH2 as a heterodimer.
